Finnish Optical Society (FOS)

The Finnish Optical Society (FOS) was founded in 1996 to promote optics, optics-related competences and their application in Finland, and to provide a connection point for its members. The FOS organizes meetings, lectures and training events, publishes the FOTONI membership magazine and the Society’s website, and maintains and develops international contacts. The FOS is an Affiliated Society of the European Optical Society (EOS), the International Commission for Optics (ICO), and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV).

Joining is easy

The FOS welcomes all individuals, companies and organisations with a professional or an extracurricular interest in optics as its members. If you would like to join the FOS, all you need to do is to submit your contact details to our Membership Secretary and pay the membership fee to the bank account of the Finnish Optical Society (Nordea Bank Finland plc, Espoo-Otaniemi branch, account number 130930-204248). Please also remember to quote your reference number, which you will get from the Membership Secretary when you sign up, and to notify us if you don’t wish to have your membership information included in our Membership Directory published in the FOTONI magazine or the European Optical Society’s EOS Membership Directory covering all European national member societies. Please also remember to notify us if you do not wish your e-mail address to be automatically included in the FOS mailing list.

Benefits for Individual Members:

  • Subscription to the FOTONI membership magazine (4 issues / year).
  • Discount on participation fees in events organised by the FOS.
  • Mailing service via e-mail.
  • Annual Membership Directory with contact information.
  • Your own contact information on the Society’s website.
  • The honour and pleasure of being involved in the development of research, application and interest in optics in Finland.

Benefits for Corporate Members:

  • Corporate members receive all the benefits of individual membership: the minimum membership fee of EUR 140 earns one subscription to the membership magazine and discount on events organised by the Society for one person. Every incremental membership fee (EUR 16.82) adds a further subscription to the magazine and a discount for another person. The Membership Directory and e-mail mailing service for your nominated contact person.
  • A total of 2 pages of free advertising space in the FOTONI magazine each year. Advertisements can be placed at your convenience, for example ½ page per issue or a spread annually. Normal rates: whole page EUR 50.46; ½ page EUR 26.91; ¼ page EUR 16.82; small notice EUR 8.41.
  • Possibility to send one A4 sized newsletter with the membership magazine free of charge once a year. Possibility to send more extensive material with the membership magazine at a separately agreed price.
  • Company’s contact information or a link to your company’s website on the FOS website.

Benefits for Societal Members

  • Societal members receive all the benefits of individual membership. The membership fee earns one subscription to the membership magazine and a discount on events organised by the Society for one person. Membership Directory and e-mail mailing service for your nominated contact person.
  • Possibility to get a total of one page of free advertising space in the membership magazine annually, for example ¼ page per issue.
  • Organisation’s contact information or a link to your organisation’s website on the FOS website.
